More Rosette Work

Been doing a bit more work on the Crossover guitar rosette. It's done now except for a little bit of cleanup. I thin it turned out good, not how I originally designed it but good. I need to build a jig for making better more consistent segments.

With Guitar building there is always one more jig to build....

Cut to size and inlaid into the top

Outer & inner purfling added and planed down

Working on Rosettes

One of the nice things about doing this just for fun at this point is you can work at your own pace and on whatever interests you at the time so right now I feel like working on Rosettes..

Here is the progress on the Ukulele rosette, for this one I just used random pieces of scrap glued together.

Two Necks

I had a bit of time this weekend to do some work on the Crossover Guitar and Tenor Uke.. I've got the two neck roughly cut to size..

Maybe time to joint the tops & backs.

Summer

Summer, lots going on and not much of it do do with guitar building.. I have however got some new toys, a Byrnes Table Saw and Thickness Sander. VERY well make hand built power tools. I'm looking forward to using them. The little bit of playing around I have done with them they are great.

I've also done my yearly organizing and cleaning.

So I'm ready to start picking away at my next projects a Crossover Guitar and a Tenor Uke..

Kerfed Lining Jig

Taking the summer off building so I can get other stuff done of my DIY home improvement list and get out and have some fun, but I also have a list of jigs to build over the summer.. I have a different style of kerfed linings I want to start using ao I need a way to make them myself.. step 1 make a jig to cut the kerfs.. not my idea there are lots out on the internet, this one is based on one form here:

I like it because it is self contained once adjusted it should stay that way and not need much tweaking.. seems to work.....

Second Parlour Guitar Done

Parlour Guitar #2 is done.... Made with more traditional wood choices. Cedar & Indian Rosewood with a Mahogany neck & Rosewood Fingerboard.. I think it sounds a bit fuller than the Pacific Parlour but I am surprised at how close they do sound for radically different woods..

First One Done

Whew, the first of the two Parlour Guitars is done!... The one I'm calling a Pacific Parlour, because it's primary woods are all found close to the Pacific Ocean; Koa, Arbutus (Madrona) & Narra..

The first notes on it sound good, clean & mellow decent but not amazing sustain. I'll do some better photos on hopefully a sound sample soon..

Now just need to finish the other one..
